If you would have told 18-year-old me what actually got clients results, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

From a very young age, I dealt with anorexia and a lot of exercise compulsions. I eventually channeled that into productive health focused behaviors like running track and cross country and eventually found bodybuilding.

And then I found science.

What a perfect combination, right? I had both my own experiences as a high-level physique competitor, and I was learning all the ‘right’ things in my exercise science program at school.

To be honest, this carried me for many, many years. I conducted my own randomized control trial [on weight loss, regain, and eating behaviors], spoke on stages with other top fitness professionals, and helped clients get past the ultra-rigid practices that were plaguing the industry at the time.

That worked… until it didn’t.

Client cases got more and more complex.

Clients weren’t struggling to track macros… they didn’t know how NOT to.

Clients’ poor relationship with food was something I couldn’t ignore.

Clients’ mental health and lifestyles started to change.

I had to take a step back and recognize that I was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, and that I needed to step up my skills.

Clients aren’t robots with their actions and behaviors, and human bodies rarely progress in a linear fashion.

In a field where black and white behaviors are celebrated, I knew there was more.

After coaching hundreds of clients, speaking on 20+ national and international stages, plus advanced education and graduate research in exercise science, I can confidently say there is both an art and a science to effective coaching and we must respect + train both.
